Soft skills elements in structured clinical skill assessment: a qualitative study

Introduction: The intangible nature of soft skills makes it difficult for nursing academics to evaluate students' attainment these skills. Most the time, focus more on assessing knowledge and performance (hard skills) in clinical skill assessments. In focusing primarily hard competencies, profession has given inadequate attention developing their competencies. Thus, this study aimed explore academic's view elements structured assessment undergraduate program. Method: This was conducted using a qualitative approach. A total 10 were involved, they recruited through purposive sampling method. Data collected in-depth interviews open-ended questions gain insight into academics' perception analysis by an inductive content Results: Four themes emerge from study. These are 1) awareness involvement, 2) Factors influencing implementation assessment, 3) academic responsibility, 4) suggestions overcome barriers. Conclusion: Findings provide new insights assessments program needs improvement proper structure how/what that want measure students. findings would assist strategic framework produce quality graduates.
